Description

Here is a little lifesign of myself.
A pencil drawing i did recently to keep up with drawing even if im still right in the middle of a terrible artblock.

So scince i can imagine anything on my own i just "copy" photos.

This is made from a photo of Pauline Nordin and turned out relatively nice, compared to my other attempts, which is why i decided to share it.

Took me around 2 hours of undisturbed time to finish. Time thats getting quite rare for me these days.

I hope this picture at least maked up a little for the long wait. At least i managed to get something onto paper instead of just doing nothing and hoping it'll get better.

I don't make this kind of statement lightly, but it needs to be said: this piece is truly transcendent. Despite the loose, sketchy, work-in-progress feel, it manages to convey a level of nuance and refinement seen only in much more formal techniques, and only after hours of meticulous development.

I am always impressed when someone accomplishes photorealistic shading with an economy of linework, and ayanamifan delivers it in spades here. Anyone can evoke depth and dimensionality with basic knowledge of where to place the shadow and where to place the light, but not many grasp the subtlelty to affect dimensionality AND effects like rim lighting and falloff convincingly as seen here. The extra little traces of highlight on the left (shadowed) side of the subject's abs captures this effect brilliantly. Everywhere else, the shading (and outlining) lends strength to the subject matter through expert control of contrast.

Obviously, I'm a fan of buff women, and this piece does not dissapoint in that respect either. While I have been known to dabble in (and fav) a bit of the fantastical, it is nice to see people still doing so much justice to realistic human forms as well.

Top marks for technique and execution (love the shade-out "vignetting" at the bottom edge of the work). And the differentiation between skin and fabric is also expertly affected. About the only thing that I think could improve on the piece would be a beefier chain <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>
